Where’s the University of Genoa located?

It has five Polos across the city and these are:

Polo Balbi

This campus is located in the port area, in the Pré district. This is the headquarters of the institution. It’s located in the city centre, on via Balbi, and is home to these faculties:

• Social Sciences: you can find the departments of Economics, Law, and Political and International Sciences.
• Humanistic Sciences: here are the departments of Antiquity, Philosophy and History, Italian Studies, Roman Philology, Art and Performance, and Modern Languages and Culture.

Polo Sarzano

This Polo comprehends two departments:

• Architecture and Design
• Education

Polo Albaro

This is the home of the Polytechnic School and the departments are:

• Department of Computer Science, Bioengineering, Robotics and Systems Engineering.
• Department of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering
• Department of Mechanical, Energy, Management and Transport Engineering
• Departments of Naval, Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering

Polo San Martino

In this Polo you can find the faculties of:

• Medicine and Pharmacy: including the departments of Pharmacy, Internal Medicine and Medical Specialities, Experimental Medicine, Neuroscience, Rehabilitation, Ophthalmology, Genetics and Maternal-Infant, Surgery and Diagnostics, and Health Sciences.
• Mathematics, Physics and Nature: includes the Department of Earth, Environmental and Life Sciences.

Polo Valletta Puggia

Includes other departments of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Nature:

• Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry

Best neighbourhoods to live in near UniGe

Depending on the degree you are going to study, you’ll have to look for accommodation in different areas of the city. In this section you’ll find information about the best neighbourhoods near UniGe.

Maddalena

The Maddalena district is one of the most emblematic and characteristic areas of the historic centre of Genoa, right next to the Polo Balbi. It’s part of the old town, which is one of the largest and best preserved in Europe. This neighbourhood has a rich history and a unique atmosphere, marked by its labyrinth of narrow streets, known as 'caruggi', which evoke medieval times.

Pré

This area is home to Polo Balbi, so if you're studying Social Sciences or Humanities, this is the neighbourhood for you. Being one of the most ancient and authentic of Genoa's historic centre, it’s known for both its history and cultural diversity. It’s located near the Genoa Piazza Principe Station, one of the city's main railway stations, so it’s also very well connected.

Molo

Molo is also part of the old town of Genoa. Polo Sarzano is located in this neighbourhood. Located in the heart of the city centre, it has a lively and youthful atmosphere. The streets are full of bars and restaurants where you can meet up with your friends and have a good time.

San Martino

It’s the furthest neighbourhood from the centre of Genoa, 20 minutes by train, but in this area you’ll find the Polos of Sarzano, Albaro, Valletta Puggia, and San Martino. Its streets are lined with terraces, bars and shops to enjoy the local atmosphere. Just two kilometres away you’ll find several beaches for sea lovers.

Student residences near UniGe

The public university residences are managed by EDISU Liguria (Ente Regionale per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario). It’s the organisation in charge of providing support services to university students. There’re residence options near all the Polos, and at a very affordable price!

Genoa is a university town, so there are also many options for private residences. They have higher prices but are usually more comfortable.
